The end of one thing is the beginning of another

The Finnish Government defines the national language program for basic education, but the organization of language teaching is ultimately determined by municipalities and schools based on their resources and priorities. This means they have the freedom to decide how language education is implemented.

In 2025, the Russian language class in Turku was discontinued, and with it, a continuous language learning path that had existed in the city for over 30 years came to an end. This pathway offered those interested in Russian language and culture a route from Miska-talo daycare to language classes and further on to higher education and careers where language skills are a valuable asset.

This path did not emerge overnight. It developed gradually from the wishes of families and the dedicated work of early childhood educators and teachers. When the City of Turku decided to close the language class, the story of a new school began.

Following the decision, the Miska-talo team and a group of parents came together. We asked ourselves: what if we could create a warm, community-driven environment with small group sizes and the opportunity to study languages that are not widely available in Turku?

This is how the idea of a new school was born.

We want to make everyday life easier for families. That is why we are planning diverse extracurricular activities within the school premises. Children can move directly from the school day to guided clubs. Activities will be shaped based on children’s interests (such as language clubs, music, and sports), and small group sizes ensure a safe and supportive environment.

We are an alternative and a gentle addition to Turku’s educational landscape. We invite you to join us in building a school where languages open the world and community supports every step of the journey.

Leave your contact details and join us! Our goal is to open in 2027.
